Chesterfield, VA (May 20, 2007)… Nick Rousey (Pensacola, FL) fired a three-under par 69 in Sunday’s final round of the Base Camp Realty/Chesdin Landing Open presented by Michelob Ultra over the 6767 yard, par 72 Lake Chesdin Club to earn his second career Hooters Tour title and first since 2005.“I have been working on some swing changes during the off season with Gale Peterson down in Sea Island as well as my dad and I am not sure what happened this week, a light switch just turned on and everything fell into place,” said Rousey.
The former University of Alabama golfer fired rounds of 65-65-68-69 for a four day total of twenty-one-under par 267 and a seven stroke victory over former VirginiaCommonwealth golfer Steve Gilley (Newnan, GA). Gilley closed with a four-under par 68 Sunday for a four day total of fourteen-under par 274.
“Coming into this week I had never broken 200 or fired all four rounds in the sixties. Thursday was a solid day for me but the 65 I shot on Friday in the bad weather (rain showers all day) was probably one of the greatest rounds of golf I have ever played in my life,” Rousey said after the round. “Despite the weather, I was able to hit a lot of greens and make most of my putts.”
2005 tournament champion Gareth Maybin (Ballyclare, Northern Ireland), first round leader Nick Gilliam (Gainesville, FL) and Matthew Borchert (Orlando, FL) finished tied for third at thirteen-under par 275. Gilliam and Borchert closed with 67 on Sunday, while Maybin carded a two-under par 70.
Cameron Yancey (Blackstone) headed up the remainder of the Virginia contingent in The Base CampRealty Chesdin Landing Open after firing a four day total of eleven-under par 277. Powahatan’s Jay Woodson closed with a one-under par 71 for a four day total of even-par 288, while Lake Chesdin head pro Tim White finished with a disappointing five-over par 77 and a four day total of five-over par 293.
Rousey collects a career best $36,168 for his second career win, while Steve Gilley takes home $17,844 for his runner-up finish.
The Hooters Tour heads to Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville, North Carolina next week for the 2007 Touchstone Energy Open presented by Michelob Ultra.
