McCormick, SC (April 29, 2007)…Michael Connell fired a final round eight-under par 64 in the final round of the 2007 Savannah Lakes Resort Classic over the 7032 yard, par 72 Monticello Golf Club @ Savannah Lakes Resort to earn his fifth career Hooters Tour title. The 2002 Hooters Tour Player of the Year fired rounds of 70-67-70-64 for a four day total of seventeen-under par 271 and a one stroke victory over local favorite Emmett Turner (Augusta, GA). Turner fired a final round five-under par 67, but bogeyed the final hole to fall one short of Connell, to finish at sixteen-under par 272.
“I was really controlling my ball out there today,” said the former MississippiState golfer. “I struck the ball really well on the front nine and seemed to have tap in putts for birdie and eagle. The course was really set up today where either you had a chance for birdie or you had to try and settle for par.”
Defending champion Kris Blanks fired a final round 68 and finished all alone in third place at fifteen-under par 273.
FormerAugustaState golfer Scott Jamieson (Scotland) headed up the remainder of the local contention in the SavannahLakes Resort Classic with a four day total of seven-under par 281. Jay Mundy (Augusta, GA) and Scott Brown (Augusta, GA) finished tied for 40th at two-under par 286.
“It was a pretty special deal this week with all the volunteers and especially the spectators on Sunday,” said Connell. “I have seen crowds at events before but to see all these people this week it was great.”
Connell collects a season best $33,566 for his 5th career win on the Hooters Tour, while Emmett Turner takes home $16,703 for his third career runner up finish.
The Hooters Tour takes a week off before swinging back into action in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the Quicksilver Classic at Quicksilver golf club.
