PHOTO: EHRMANN/WIREIMAGEAugusta, GA (April 8, 2007)…With a tap-in par on the final hole, Hooters Tour alumnus Zach Johnson shocked the golf world Sunday by capturing his first Major title by winning The Masters at the incredibly tough Augusta National Golf Club. The win is Johnson’s first since winning the Bellsouth in the 2004 season.

The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native fired rounds of 71-72-76-69 for a four day total of one-over par 289, and a two stroke victory over world number one Tiger Woods, two-time US Open winner Retief Goosen and Rory Sabatini. Johnson’s final round 69 was fueled by three birdies on a crucial four-hole stretch on the back nine. Johnson’s one-over par 289 matched the highest winning score in The Masters since 1956.

said the 31-year old Johnson. "That's what I was trying to tell myself the entire time and it worked out in my favor.''

“I did not go for any (par-5) green in two this week,” Johnson said. “I had limitations on what clubs I had to have in. I had good lay-up numbers. I had a good game plan on how to approach every pin. I don’t have many wedges into many of the holes here, so I was able to take advantage of good numbers.”

With his win, Johnson collects $1,305,000 and becomes the tenth winner of a Major by an alumnus of the Hooters Tour. Johnson joins John Daly (British Open and PGA), Lee Janzen (Two US Opens), Tom Lehman (British Open), David Toms (PGA), Jim Furyk (US Open), Ben Curtis (British Open) and Shaun Micheel (PGA).
