Myrtle Beach, SC (June 18, 2010)… Zack Byrd (Calabash, NC) fired a final round five-under par 67 to win his first career Hooters event and the ninth Carolina Summer Series event of 2010 hosted by Legends Golf Club. Byrd, who played his college golf just down the road at Coastal Carolina University, carded rounds of 67-66-67 en route to a 13- under par total. Byrd who started the day tied for the lead with Tyler Dice (Chapel Hill, NC) and Nemanja Savic (Raleigh, NC) quickly went to work with birdies on two of the first five holes on his way to a front nine 33. Dice shot a matching 33 while Savic was one back at the turn with a 34. Back-to-back birdies on holes 12 and 13 by Byrd provided a two shot cushion, which proved to be the winning margin.
Byrd will take home $4,900 for his victory; while Savic and Dice will each receive $2,400 for their runner-up finishes.
The top 10 members at season’s end will earn full exempt status for the 2011 Hooters Pro Series. Top three finishers each week get into the following weeks Pro Series event.
The Carolina Summer Series travels to the Legends Golf Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC, July 14-16 for the tenth event of the 2010 season.
