Howser Outlasts Gilley

   The Stonebridge Michelob Ultra Classic
Stonebridge Golf and Country Club
August 24-27, 2006

Albany, GA (August 27, 2006)…David Howser (Cordova, TN) made a ten foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole in The Stonebridge Michelob Ultra Classic over the 6913 yard, par 72 Stonebridge Golf and Country Club to garner his second career Hooters Tour title and first since 1999.

“Coming up on 18 was the first time that I saw that I was tied with someone at 22-under par, I hooked my seven iron coming in on 18 and made a little three foot tester to make the playoff,” said the former University of Arizona golfer.

“I felt like when I hit the putt on the second playoff hole, it was good all the way and that gratification of just getting it done feels great.”

Howser closed with four-under par 68 on Sunday for a four day total of twenty-two-under par 196. Steve Gilley (Newnan, GA) fired a six-under par 66 on Sunday to finish with Howser at twenty-two-under par but came up short of his first Hooters Tour win.

“After shooting the 61 on Friday, I felt like I needed to keep going low because the way the course was this week, you had to go low each day to win out here or you were going to get passed. My iron play was solid all week so I felt like I had a chance on Sunday.”

Jesse Hutchins (Kirkersville, OH) fired a final round three-under par 69 to finish all alone in third place at twenty-one-under par 197, while Jay Woodson (Powhatan, VA) finished all alone in fourth place after closing with a three-under par 69 Sunday for four day total of twenty-under par 198.

Howser collects a Hooters Tour best $31,645 for winning his second career title, while Steve Gilley takes home $15,767 for his runner-up finish.

The Hooters Tour takes a week off before swinging back into action September 4-10 at River Hills GC in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the Michelob Ultra Classic.
