Potter Completes Magical Week With Win

The Dothan Classic
Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Highland Oaks
August 17-20, 2006

Dothan, AL (August 20, 2006)…Ted Potter (Silver Springs, FL) fired a three-under par 69 in Sunday’s final round of The Dothan Classic over the 7591 yard, par 72 Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Highland Oaks to win his first ever Hooters Tour title.

“I thought coming into this week it would probably take about ten or twelve to win, but this course obviously sets up for my length off the tee and I was accurate with my irons all week,” said the twenty-two year old Potter.

The former Nationwide Tour member fired rounds of 65-64-68-69 for a four day total of twenty-two-under par 266 and convincing eleven stroke victory over Jesse Hutchins (Kirkersville, OH). Hutchins fired the low round of the day Sunday with seven-under par 65. With his eleven stroke victory Sunday, Potter becomes the first player to ever win by double digits on the Hooters Tour, breaking current PGA Tour members Chad Campbell and Michael Connell’s record of nine stroke victories.

“To win is just amazing, I really don’t care about the accolades that go with the win,” said Potter. “I have been so close the past four events and to get it done today is really amazing.”

Clint Provost (Gulfbreeze, FL), a former University of Alabama golfer, finished all alone in third place at nine-under par 279 after closing with a four-under par 68 Sunday.

Local standout Heath West (Dothan) headed up the Alabama contingent in The Dothan Classic after carding a four-under par 68 Sunday, which included a birdie-birdie-eagle finish, for a four day total of seven-under par 281. Spanish Fort’s Todd Bailey finished the event at one-over par 289 after carding an even par 72 Sunday, while local amateur Mason Crumpler (Enterprise) finished his tournament at eight-over par 295.

Ted Potter earns a Hooters Tour best $24,096 for his first career win, while Jesse Hutchins takes home $11,934 for his second place finish.

The Hooters Tour heads to Albany, Georgia next week for the third “Major” of the season, The 5th Annual Stonebridge Michelob Ultra Classic.

HOOTS: With his eleven stroke victory Sunday, Potter becomes the first player to ever win by double digits on the Hooters Tour, breaking current PGA Tour members Chad Campbell and Michael Connell’s record of nine stroke victories.

Potter also shatters the Dothan Classic scoring record of thirteen-under par 275 set in 2004 by current PGA Tour member Wil MacKenzie.
