The Guatemala International Open
Sanctioned by The NGA Hooters Tour
San Isidro CC
February 16-19, 2006

Guatemala City, Guatemala (February 19, 2006)…Alex Rodger (Redlands, CA, USA) closed with a two-under par 70 in the final round of The $200,000 Guatemala International Open sanctioned by The NGA Hooters Tour over the 7129 yard, par 72 San Isidro Country Club to win his third professional tournament by one stroke over third round leader Chris Stroud (Brunswick, GA, USA).

“I keep trying to prove to myself that I can win on any level, and with the strong field this week of former PGA, Nationwide, and Hooters Tour guys, I feel I have done that,” said the twenty-seven year old Rodger.

Rodger started the day in fifth place, seven strokes behind Stroud, but when Stroud closed with a par on the eighteenth hole for a final round six-over par 78 and even par finish, Rodger had the win. Rodger finished with 73-70-74-70, for a four day total of one-under par 287. He was the only player in red numbers for the week.

“I felt like I had a chance at the beginning of the day, but I felt like it would have been at least a three-under par total but never a one-under par finish.”

Stroud, who had lead all three rounds heading into Sunday’s final round, played the weekend at eight-over par after playing the first two days at eight-under par.

“I feel for Chris today because he played so well all week.”

David Miller (Daphne, AL, USA) and Michael Parrott (Woodstock, GA, USA) finished tied for third at two-over par 290 and collected $10,289.50.

With the win Rodger collects $40,000, while Stroud pockets $16,970 for his second place finish.

“The money is great, but winning is more important for me. $40,000 is awesome but I would have come down here anyway at for chance to win.”

Guatemala’s Alex Villaviciencio carded a final round one-over par 73 for a four day total of eight-over par 296. He finished tied for fifteen, which nets him $2,683.80.

The Hooters Tour takes three weeks off before beginning the United States portion of the schedule March 13-19 in Orlando, Florida at Black Bear Golf Club.
