Augusta, GA (September 16, 2007)…Casey Wittenberg (Memphis, TN) fired a five-under par 67 Sunday in the final round of The 2007 Kandy Waters Memorial Classic over the 7143 yard, par 72 Goshen Plantation to garner his second Hooters Tour title of the season and third of his career.“You have to realize it is going to be a long day out there when you start and you have try and keep telling yourself to keep the pedal to the metal and try and go as low as you can go,” said the twenty-two year old Wittenberg after playing thirty-three holes on Sunday.
“The toughest part was not repairing because you really don’t know what the guys in front of you are doing, you just have to keep shooting low scores and hope that gets it done.”
The former Oklahoma State golfer fired rounds of 69-69-70-67 for a four day total of thirteen-under par 275 and a four stroke victory over Bruce McDonald (Zimbabwe), Shawn Stefani (Baytown, TX), Michael Lavery (Mission Veijo, CA) and Kevin Streelman (Winfield, IL). The foursome finished at nine-under par 279 for the week.
“My game is going really good right now with two wins and a second over the last four tournaments,” said Wittenberg. “You have to be able to putt to win and lucky for me I have been putting really well over the past few weeks and I was going to try and run the streak as long as I could.”
Local pro Kevin Kisner (Aiken, SC) headed up a group of seven golfers that finished five strokes behind Wittenberg at eight-under par 280.
With the victory, Wittenberg takes home $33,566 and moves into first place on the season long Hooters Tour money list with earnings of $120,677.39. For their second place finish, the foursome takes home $11,152.
The Hooters Tour heads to Charleston, South Carolina next week for The Charleston Miracle League Open at The Golf Club at Wescott Plantation.
