Little River, SC (September 9, 2007)…Andrew Medley (Athens, AL) fired a one-over par 73 in Sunday’s final round of the Michelob Ultra Classic over the 6928 yard, par 72 River Hills Golf and Country Club to earn his first career Hooters Tour title.“Lately I have been playing well ever since I changed swing coaches to Will Blackman in Auburn and he has really helped my game,” said the recent graduate of Auburn. “He has really given me a lot of confidence in my game over the past few weeks.”
The former Auburn golfer fired rounds of 68-72-66-73 for a four day total of nine-under par 279 and a one stroke victory over Casey Wittenberg (Memphis, TN), Luke Hart (Blythewood, SC) and Emmett Turner (Augusta, GA).
“During my senior year at Auburn I didn’t’ play that well so looking back to four months ago I didn’t think I would be here right now but I over the last few weeks I was playing great golf finishing top twenty and top ten out here and I just needed to put four rounds together.”
Wittenberg closed with a four-under par 68 Sunday to move to eight-under par 280, while Hart and Turner had 71 and 74 respectively to finish the trio tied at eight-under par.
Former Minnesota golfer John Carlson (Blaine, MN) fired the round of the day with a six-under par 66 to finish in a tie with Nick MacKay (Australia) and Jason Dilliard (Cullman, AL) at six-under par 282, three behind Medley.
Andrew Medley collects a career best $34,238 for his first career victory, while Hart, Wittenberg and Turner take home $12,560 for their runner-up finish.
“To win out here with a strong field of players that I have looked up to over the past few years really gives me the confidence that I need heading into PGA Tour Q-school in a few weeks.
The Hooters Tour heads to GoshenPlantation in Augusta, Georgia next week for the 2007 Kandy Waters Memorial Classic presented by Augusta Lincoln Mercury.
