Three's A Charm For Flanagan
Former Hooters Tour Member Wins Xerox Classic
Rochester, NY (August 19, 2007)…It took three months, but former Hooters Tour member Nick Flanagan captured his third Nationwide Tour victory of the season Sunday by capturing the Xerox Classic at the Irondequoit Country Club.Flanagan, the 2003 US Amateur champion, carded rounds of 69-68-70 and a bogey-free seven-under par 63 in the final round for a four day total of ten-under par 270 and a one stroke victory over James Driscoll.
"A dream come through to come out here and win three," said the twenty-three year old Flanagan.
"I wasn't thinking about winning the golf tournament, to be honest," Flanagan said. "I wanted to make as many birdies as I could to get as close as possible. To run him down I had to play as good as I could and get lucky at the end." picture by Jim Rogash/WireImage)
With his third victory of the season, Flanagan earns the automatic battlefield promotion and will spend the remainder of the season on the PGA Tour. Flanagan also collects $108,000 and finishes his Nationwide Tour season with $369,951 in earnings. Flanagan also joins former member ChadCampbell (2001) as the only Hooters Tour alums to earn the Battlefield Promotion.
"I want to get some experience so I'm going to play a few, but I won't go nuts," he said. "But I wouldn't mind making some Christmas money. You're not going to stop me from playing for $4 or $5 million a few times."
In one season on the Hooters Tour Flanagan collected two runner-up finishes and four top ten’s. In his eight starts during the 2005 season, Flanagan earned more than $26,800 in earnings.
