Perdido, FL (August 19, 2007)…Casey Wittenberg (Memphis, TN) carded a one-under par 71 in Sunday’s final round of the Flora Bama Lounge Classic over the 7072 yard, par 72 Perdido Bay Golf Club to garner his second career Hooters Tour title.“I was able to go under par everyday here and I played some really good golf early in the week,” said Wittenberg. “After playing poorly on this same golf course last year, it was definitely a bonus to come out here this week and play that way that played.”
Wittenberg, who played collegiate golf for one year at Oklahoma State, fired rounds of 65-66-69-71 for a four day total of seventeen-under par 271 and a one stroke victory over Jeremy Wilkinson (San Antonio, Texas). Wilkinson closed with a disappointing one-under par 71, which included bogies over his final two holes, for a four day total of sixteen-under par 272.
“Sitting in eighteen fairway I was thinking that I need birdie to win and par for a playoff but he missed the green and then two putted and I left myself a three footer for the win and I was glad that it was a downhill putt for the win.”
Joe Deraney (Thomasville, GA) and Bronson La’Cassie (Queensland, Australia) finished in a tie for third place at fourteen-under par 274, three strokes behind Wittenberg.
Local pro Nick Rousey (Pensacola) headed up the Pensacola contingent in The Flora Bama Lounge Classic after closing with a two-under par 70 Sunday for a four day total of nine-under par 279, while Andrew Carr closed with an even par 72 and finished the tournament at seven-under par 281.
Wittenberg collects a Hooters Tour best $34,573 for his second career victory, while Wilkinson takes home $17,127 for his first runner-up finish of the season.
The Hooters Tour heads to Dothan, Alabama and the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Highland Oaks next week for the 5th Annual Dothan Classic.
