Joplin, MO (June 17, 2007)… Blaine Peffley (Lebanon, PA) carded a five-under par 66 Sunday in the final round of The Loma Linda Classic presented by Zimmer Radio Group over the 6628 yard, par 71 North Course at Loma Linda Resort to garner his first career Hooters Tour title.“I thought it would take me at least a year to get to this point,” said the twenty-two year old Peffley. “I thought I would have to learn how to do all the day to day stuff before I got my first win.”
Peffley, the former University of Maryland golfer that left school early to chase the dream of playing on the PGA Tour, carded rounds of 66-66-69-66 for a four day total of seventeen-under par 267 and a three stroke victory over Martin Flores (Mansfield, TX). Flores closed with a six-under par 65 Sunday and finished the tournament at fourteen-under par 270.
“I knew as soon as I started working out and lost thirty pounds and firmed up my body and got my mind right that it was the right decision to leave school early and try to get to the PGA Tour.”
“I got a new caddy (Cedric) last Saturday in Bentonville and over the past six rounds, we have only made six bogies. He is helping teach me how to play the game.”
David Miller (Daphne, AL), Donald Carpenter III (Athens, GA) and Rob Johnson (Orlando, FL) finished in a tie for third place at thirteen-under par 271, four strokes behind Peffley.
Peffley collects a career best $33,566 for his first career win, while Flores takes home $16,639 for his third runner-up finish of the season. With their finishes in Joplin, MO, Flores moves to number two and Peffley moves to number three on the money list with $61,801.50 and $59,782.52 respectively.
The Hooters Tour heads west on I-44 to Miami, Oklahoma for the 5th Annual Buffalo Run Casino Classic next week.
